The international conceptual modeling conferences provide a forum for presenting and discussing current research and interesting applications in which the major emphasis is on conceptual modeling. These conferences were originally devoted to the Entity-Relationship (ER) model, but have long since expanded to consider all types of semantic data modeling, behavior and process modeling, and object-oriented systems modeling. The conferences embrace all phases of software development including analysis, specification, design, implementation, evolution, and reengineering. Our particular desire for ER'97 is to provide stimulating presentations and discussions on conceptual modeling that will interest consultants and information systems professionals outside the computer industry, as well as information technology academics and researchers in computer-company laboratories.

Five copies of original papers, not exceeding 5,000 words (25 double-spaced pages), should be submitted to one of the program co-chairs. In addition, a cover page that includes paper title, author(s), and abstract should be submitted by email. Papers on technology development should be sent to Embley, and papers on technology application should be sent to Goldstein.
Panel proposals may also be sent to one of the program co-chairs. Panel proposals on technology development should be sent to Embley, and panel proposals on technology application should be sent to Goldstein.
